Florida AG Uthmeier v. Netflix Inc.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier alleges Netflix promised an ad-free service that wouldn't collect or sell data, then logged behavior on kids profiles and put that data to work when its ad business launched in November 2022. The complaint claims violations of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and the Florida Digital Bill of Rights.
The complaint says the data flowed to LiveRamp, Experian, Acxiom, Google, Amazon, and The Trade Desk, and flags dark patterns including autoplay, on by default for every profile, kids included. Florida seeks a purge of all Florida data, an end to dark patterns, and civil penalties trebled for each known child. Texas filed a similar suit in May 2026.

Multistate AGs v. Meta Platforms Inc. — Consent Judgment
Consent judgment entered August 26, 2026, resolving claims by 47 state attorneys general, the District of Columbia, and several US territories that Meta's Facebook and Instagram platforms harmed children and teens through addictive design, extensive data collection, and inadequate safety controls.
Meta pays up to $16.7 billion over ten years and adopts limits including a two-hour default daily use cap for teen accounts and expanded parental controls. Officials in the UK, the EU, and at the UN have called for the same protections in their jurisdictions within days of the deal.
The agreement also funds state investigations of Snap, TikTok, and YouTube on similar theories.
Arturo Béjar, a former Meta employee who testified at trial, on the two-hour limit: "It doesn't make the cigarettes any safer."
